Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol Letchworth 8 Plank Wagon (Weathered) is an OO gauge model finished in a weathered livery representing the Letchworth Electricity Works. It measures 82 mm in length, 33 mm in width and 37 mm in height, and is equipped with NEM / tension‑lock couplings and NEM pockets. The minimum curve it can negotiate is a radius of 1, and the manufacturer part number is 4F‑080‑107. The model depicts the era of the Big Four railway companies.

The prototype 8‑plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7‑plank design and was chiefly used for hauling lighter coal products such as coke. Its greater height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. These wagons were constructed from the late 1920s to the late 1930s and remained in service until the late 1960s. They featured side doors for loading and unloading and could be tipped from the opposite end door.

The model is highly detailed, with profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, an accurately applied livery and a coal load. The inclusion of NEM pockets with self‑centering couplers enhances its readiness for use in OO gauge layouts.

Overall dimensions: length over buffers 82 mm, width 33 mm, height 37 mm.
