Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

The Dapol 8 Plank Wagon SPC 5007 is an OO‑scale model presented in a weathered finish. It carries a Smith Parkinson & Cole Ltd livery and uses NEM / tension‑lock couplings. The manufacturer part number is 4F‑080‑121 and it is suitable for use on a minimum radius curve of 1 chain.

The prototype 8‑plank wagon was introduced as a development of the earlier 7‑plank design, intended for the transport of less dense coal such as coke. Its increased height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. These wagons were built from the late 1920s to the late 1930s and remained in operation until the late 1960s. They featured side doors for loading and could be tipped from an end door to aid unloading.

The model reproduces the prototype with a finely moulded body, profiled wheels, and an accurately applied livery. It is supplied complete with a coal load and includes NEM pockets fitted with self‑centering couplers.

Dimensions are 82 mm in length over buffers, 33 mm wide and 37 mm high.
