Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)

Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

The Dapol Rose Smith 8 Plank Wagon is a model railway wagon designed for OO gauge. The wagon is finished with a weathered effect and features a livery representing Rose, Smith & Co. It has a length of 82mm, a width of 33mm, and a height of 37mm.

This model is a representation of the 8 plank wagon, a type of coal wagon that was built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s. It was designed to carry less dense forms of coal, such as coke, and had a capacity of 12 tons. The real wagons had doors at each side to aid unloading and loading, and could be tipped from one end.

The Dapol model is a highly detailed representation of this type of wagon, featuring a finely moulded body and accurately applied livery. It also comes complete with a coal load and has NEM pockets with self-centring couplers. The model is designed to be used on curves with a minimum radius of 1.

The Dapol Rose Smith 8 Plank Wagon is a useful addition to any model railway layout depicting the Big Four era, which includes the LNER, LMS, GWR, and SR. It is a suitable choice for modellers looking to add a representation of this type of wagon to their collection.
