Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol Modern Transport 8 Plank Wagon is an OO gauge model in a pristine finish and Modern Transport livery. It carries the manufacturer part number 4F-080-100 and is fitted with NEM/Tension‑lock couplings. The minimum curve radius required is Radius 1. The model represents the Big Four railway companies of the period when the prototype wagons were built, namely the LNER, LMS, GWR and SR.

The prototype 8‑plank wagon was introduced in the late 1920s as a development of the earlier 7‑plank type. Primarily intended for lighter coal such as coke, its greater height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. Production continued into the late 1930s and the wagons remained in service until the late 1960s. They featured side doors for loading and unloading and could be tipped from one end door.

The Dapol model includes profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, a coal load, accurately applied livery and NEM pockets with self‑centering couplers. Its dimensions are 82 mm length over buffers, 33 mm width and 37 mm height. The model is presented as a highly detailed addition to a rolling‑stock collection.
