Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

The Dapol 8-plank open wagon in the Modern Transport livery is a model of a railway wagon used during the Big Four era. This model is designed for OO gauge railroads and features a weathered finish.

The real-life 8-plank wagons were used primarily to transport less dense forms of coal, such as coke, during the late 1920s to the late 1960s. They were built with an additional plank compared to their 7-plank predecessors, allowing them to carry a full 12-ton capacity. Each wagon had doors on either side for ease of unloading and loading, and could be tipped from one end door.

This Dapol model is designed to be a highly detailed representation of the 8-plank wagon. It features profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, and a complete coal load. The livery is accurately applied, and the model includes NEM pockets with self-centring couplers for easy connection to other rolling stock.

The model measures 82mm in length over the buffers, 33mm in width, and 37mm in height, making it suitable for use on curves with a minimum radius of 1.
