Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol 8‑plank wagon, model number 4F‑080‑118, is supplied in OO gauge. The model measures 82 mm in length over buffers, 33 mm wide and 37 mm high. It carries the Monckton livery and is fitted with NEM tension‑lock couplings and NEM pockets for self‑centering couplers. The minimum curve radius is listed as Radius 1.

The prototype 8‑plank wagon was an evolution of the earlier 7‑plank design, intended for transport of less dense coal types such as coke. Its increased height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. The wagons were constructed from the late 1920s to the late 1930s and remained in service until the late 1960s. They feature side doors on each face and can be tipped from the open end door to aid loading and unloading.

The model reproduces these details with profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, an accurate coal load and correctly applied livery. It is suitable for inclusion in rolling stock representing the period of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).
