Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol has introduced a new OO gauge model of an 8 plank wagon in the livery of Embling & Son. The wagon is weathered and features a highly detailed design.

The model measures 82mm in length, 33mm in width, and 37mm in height. It has a minimum radius curve requirement of Radius 1 and is equipped with NEM/Tension lock couplings.

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the 7 plank version, primarily used for carrying less dense forms of coal, such as coke, in the late 1920s to late 1930s. It remained in service until the late 1960s, featuring side doors for loading and unloading and a tipping mechanism from one end door.

The model comes complete with a coal load and features a finely moulded body, profiled wheels, and accurately applied livery. It is a suitable addition to any model railway depicting the Big Four era, representing the LNER, LMS, GWR, and SR.
