Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol Bull 8 Plank Wagon is an OO gauge model representing a standard British coal wagon from the era of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR). The model is supplied in the H.C Bull livery and carries a realistic coal load.

The wagon measures 82 mm in length over buffers, 33 mm in width and 37 mm in height. It is fitted with NEM pockets and a tension‑lock (self‑centering) coupler, and can navigate a minimum radius of 1 curve.

Historically the full‑size 8‑plank wagon was introduced in the late 1920s as an evolution of the 7‑plank design. Its increased height allowed it to carry a full 12‑ton capacity of lower‑density coal such as coke. Production continued into the late 1930s and the wagons remained in service until the late 1960s. Loading and unloading were facilitated by side doors and a tipping mechanism at one end.

The model features profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, accurate H.C Bull livery, and a coal load. It is intended as a detailed addition to a model railway’s rolling stock.
