Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol LAPORTE LTD 8 PLANK is an OO gauge rail wagon measuring 82 mm over buffers, 33 mm wide and 37 mm high. The model is finished in pristine condition and bears the B. Laporte Ltd livery. It uses NEM pockets with self‑centring tension‑lock couplings and includes a set of profiled wheels. The manufacturer part number is 4F‑080‑104.

The 8‑plank wagon represents the period of the British “Big Four” railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR) and is a development of the earlier 7‑plank design. It was originally a coal wagon intended for less dense coals such as coke, with an extra height that allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. The full‑size wagons were built between the late 1920s and the late 1930s and remained in service until the late 1960s.

The model is highly detailed, featuring a finely moulded body, accurate livery, a coal load and side doors that replicate the real‑world loading and unloading arrangement. It is suitable for inclusion in both static displays and operational OO gauge layouts.
