Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

The Dapol 8 Plank Laporte 57 is a OO gauge model of a British coal wagon. It measures 82 mm in length over buffers, 33 mm wide and 37 mm high. The model is finished in the Laporte livery, carries NEM pockets with self‑centring couplers, and is supplied with a tension‑lock coupling. The manufacturer part number is 4F‑080‑116 and the minimum curve radius is a 1‑chain radius.

The prototype 8‑plank wagon was a development of an earlier 7‑plank design and was used principally for lighter forms of coal such as coke. Its increased height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. These wagons were built from the late 1920s to the late 1930s and remained in traffic until the late 1960s. They featured side doors for loading and unloading and could be tipped from the hinged end door.

The model is highly detailed, with profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, an accurately applied Laporte colour scheme and a coal load included. The livery and fittings are reproduced to match the period represented by the Big Four railway companies – LNER, LMS, GWR and SR.

Measurements: length over buffers 82 mm, width 33 mm, height 37 mm.
