Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol 8 Plank Wagon Llay Main 954 Grey – Weathered is a OO gauge model produced by Dapol (part number 4F‑080‑129). It is finished in a weathered grey livery representing the Llay Main line and is designed for the period of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR). The model has a minimum curve radius of 1 and uses NEM/Tension‑lock couplings.

The 8‑plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7‑plank type and served primarily as a coal wagon for less dense commodities such as coke. Its increased height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. The wagons were built from the late 1920s to the late 1930s and remained in service until the late 1960s. They feature side doors for loading and unloading and can be tipped from the opposite end door.

The model is highly detailed, with profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, a coal load and accurately applied livery. It includes NEM pockets with self‑centering couplers. Overall dimensions are 82 mm in length over buffers, 33 mm in width and 37 mm in height.
