Manufacturer description

The GWR Manor was a versatile 4-6-0 configured locomotive designed with a lighter axle loading than the existing and popular Grange class which enabled the Manor to operate in regions of the GWR where this was not possible with a locomotive of comparable power.

In all, 30 Manor class locomotives were manufactured at Swindon in two batches: 20 between 1938 and 1939 and then a further 10 post nationalisation in 1950 which were designated 5MT. Although initially the performance of the locomotive was deemed at best mediocre, subtle internal refinements made towards the mid 1950s resulted in a successful and popular locomotive. In all nine examples of the Manor survived into preservation.

Dapol Draycott Manor BR Lined Green (Early Emblem) 78xx Manor Class 4‑6‑0 Steam Locomotive No.7810 is a 130 mm (1:87) model of the Great Western Railway Manor class locomotive. The model is supplied in a pristine finish, fitted with a tool‑free DCC decoder and a sugar‑cube speaker enclosure, and is ready for 2‑rail DCC operation on all driving and tender wheels.

The prototype, No. 7810 Draycott Manor, was built by GWR at Swindon in December 1938 and entered service with the Great Western Railway. It carried the British Railways early green livery with the early crest, operated with a 4‑6‑0 wheel arrangement, and was withdrawn in September 1964 after 25 years of service. Thirty Manor class locomotives were built, nine of which survive in preservation.

Key model specifications include a lined green livery with early emblem, NEM coupling, minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd radius), and power pickup on all wheels except the front pony truck. The locomotive measures 247 mm over buffers, has a die‑cast compensated chassis, a detailed cab interior with screw reverse, and a sprung front pony truck that negotiates R2 curves easily.

Additional features are a slide‑in PCB for a NEXT‑18 DCC decoder (installed through the smokebox door), no‑solder speaker connections, a push‑fit drawbar with moulded electrical connections to the tender, firebox glow lighting, and Dapol’s proven slow‑speed mechanism combined with a high‑torque motor.
