Manufacturer description

The GWR Manor was a versatile 4-6-0 configured locomotive designed with a lighter axle loading than the existing and popular Grange class which enabled the Manor to operate in regions of the GWR where this was not possible with a locomotive of comparable power.

In all, 30 Manor class locomotives were manufactured at Swindon in two batches: 20 between 1938 and 1939 and then a further 10 post nationalisation in 1950 which were designated 5MT. Although initially the performance of the locomotive was deemed at best mediocre, subtle internal refinements made towards the mid 1950s resulted in a successful and popular locomotive. In all nine examples of the Manor survived into preservation.

MODEL
Many original GA drawings were used in the development of these accurate and authentic model.

Building on the many developments from the Dapol Mogul including Dapol's award winning slide in PCB in the boiler for tool free DCC fitting and sugar cube speaker enclosure (for sound models). Conductive drawbar providing tender wheel pick-up and connections for high bass speaker.

The locomotive will have all of the usual refinements that are expected to be found on all Dapol models.

Dapol Compton Manor is a 4‑6‑0 steam locomotive model in OO gauge, representing Great Western Railway number 7807. The model is finished in a pristine GW green livery with post‑war GWR lettering and carries the number 7807 on the tender. It measures 247 mm over the buffers and is supplied with a die‑cast compensated chassis.

The locomotive is fitted with DCC sound, using a slide‑in PCB that allows tool‑free installation of a NEXT‑18 decoder and a no‑solder speaker connection. Electrical pick‑up is provided on all driving and tender wheels, except the front pony truck, which is sprung and operates on a cam to negotiate R2 curves easily. The model also includes a detailed cab interior with a screw reverse, firebox glow, and Dapol’s proven slow‑speed mechanism and high‑torque motor.

Key specifications are as follows: built to a 1:76 scale, length 130 mm, gauge OO, and equipped with NEM coupling. The original locomotive was built on 01/03/1938 at Swindon Works, entered service the same year, and was withdrawn on 01/11/1964 after 26 years of operation. The class comprised 30 locomotives, of which nine have been preserved.

The model draws on original GA drawings and incorporates features developed for Dapol’s earlier Mogul range, including a conductive drawbar with reliable electrical connections moulded into the close‑coupling push‑fit coupling, eliminating the need for wired plugs. This makes Compton Manor a highly detailed and functional representation of the GWR Manor class.
