Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
The GWR Manor was a versatile 4-6-0 configured locomotive designed with a lighter axle loading than the existing and popular Grange class which enabled the Manor to operate in regions of the GWR where this was not possible with a locomotive of comparable power.
In all, 30 Manor class locomotives were manufactured at Swindon in two batches: 20 between 1938 and 1939 and then a further 10 post nationalisation in 1950 which were designated 5MT. Although initially the performance of the locomotive was deemed at best mediocre, subtle internal refinements made towards the mid 1950s resulted in a successful and popular locomotive. In all nine examples of the Manor survived into preservation.

MODEL
Many original GA drawings were used in the development of these accurate and authentic model.
Building on the many developments from the Dapol Mogul including Dapol's award winning slide in PCB in the boiler for tool free DCC fitting and sugar cube speaker enclosure (for sound models). Conductive drawbar providing tender wheel pick-up and connections for high bass speaker.
The locomotive will have all of the usual refinements that are expected to be found on all Dapol models.

The Dapol Compton Manor is a 4‑6‑0 steam locomotive model representing Great Western Railway locomotive No 7807, built in the original GWR green livery with post‑war lettering. The model measures 130 mm in length, has a die‑cast compensated chassis and a pristine finish. It is fitted with a NEXT‑18 DCC decoder that can be installed tool‑free via a slide‑in PCB, and it offers electrical pickup on all driving wheels and on the tender.
The prototype locomotive was constructed in March 1938 at Swindon Works, entered service with the Great Western Railway and was withdrawn in November 1964 after 26 years of operation. A total of 30 Manor class engines were built, designed by Charles Collett as a lighter‑axle‑loading alternative to the Grange class, allowing use on routes with lower weight limits. Nine examples survived into preservation.
The model features a detailed cab interior with a screw reverse, a sprung front pony truck that negotiates 2nd‑radius (438 mm) curves, firebox glow and Dapol’s slow‑speed mechanism with a high‑torque motor. The tender is coupled via a close‑coupling push‑fit coupler that incorporates reliable electrical connections, eliminating the need for external wires. The locomotive is supplied as DCC ready, compatible with 12 V DC track supply.
