Manufacturer description

The 24 ton steel ore hopper wagon was originally drawn up and produced by Charles Roberts of Wakefield in the early 1930s and very similar vehicles were also produced by other manufacturers from around this time. Originally, they were supplied to private owners, rather than the main railway companies, and their principle use was for the carriage of iron ore to the various steelworks.

In later years, although their main use was still for ore traffic, they were also used for a variety of other loads including coal for which they carried a reduced tonnage. They were finally decommissioned in the early 1980s with several surviving into preservation.

Dapol's 24T Hopper BISC Weathered model features a highly detailed representation of a steel ore hopper wagon, accurate to the prototype built by Charles Roberts in 1949-1950. These wagons were originally designed for private owners, but were later used by the main railway companies for the carriage of iron ore and other loads. The model measures 82mm in length, 33mm in width, and 40mm in height, and is designed to operate on curves with a minimum radius of 1 unit.

The model is a weathered version of the BISC livery, and features a highly detailed body moulding, profiled wheels, and superbly printed livery and details. The NEM pockets enable the use of self-centring couplings for smooth operation. The 24T steel ore hopper wagon was a common sight on British railways during the Big Four era, and this model will make a great addition to any collection of rolling stock.
