Manufacturer description

The 24 ton steel ore hopper wagon was originally drawn up and produced by Charles Roberts of Wakefield in the early 1930s and very similar vehicles were also produced by other manufacturers from around this time. Originally, they were supplied to private owners, rather than the main railway companies, and their principle use was for the carriage of iron ore to the various steelworks.

In later years, although their main use was still for ore traffic, they were also used for a variety of other loads including coal for which they carried a reduced tonnage. They were finally decommissioned in the early 1980s with several surviving into preservation.

Dapol's 24T Steel Ore Hopper Dorman Long A228 model is a detailed representation of a 24 ton steel ore hopper wagon built by Charles Roberts in 1949 and 1950. The real-life wagon was originally designed in the early 1930s for private owners, primarily used for transporting iron ore to steelworks. They were later used for other loads, including coal, before being decommissioned in the early 1980s.

The model features highly detailed body moulding, superbly printed livery and details, and profiled wheels. It also has NEM pockets with self-centring couplings. The model measures 82mm in length, 33mm in width, and 40mm in height, making it suitable for use on small radii curves of 1:76 scale.
