Rapido Trains UK OO gauge model of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Class 25 “Ironclad” 0‑6‑0 locomotive (No 52043) is offered with DCC sound capability. The model carries the manufacturer part number 817510 and represents the locomotive as it appeared in the British Railways Early Crest era.

The kit includes a L&Y‑style smokebox door, a single boiler handrail, Ramsbottom safety valves and a coreless motor with flywheel. A 21‑pin decoder socket is fitted in the tender, together with a large tender‑mounted speaker, plunger locomotive pickups, tender wheel‑bearing pickups and a dynamic firebox flicker. The model is designed for operation on 2nd‑radius curves of 438 mm (17 in) or greater and features MoPower stay‑alive, NEM pockets at the front and rear and a stay‑alive fitted decoders.

Historically, the Class 25 0‑6‑0s were introduced from 1876 by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway under William Barton Wright, with 280 examples built by five manufacturers. Originally freight engines, they earned the nickname “Ironclad” for their robustness and later served in mixed traffic, shunting and local goods duties. The class survived into British Railways service, the last member being withdrawn in 1959, and several examples have been preserved, notably No 957 “Green Dragon”, which appeared in the 1970 film *The Railway Children*.

The Rapido model will be released in a range of liveries, including two that reflect different periods of the locomotive’s preservation history. It is suitable for use on layouts equipped with DCC sound and offers detailed British prototype features in OO gauge.
