Rapido Trains UK offer an OO‑gauge model of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Class 25 ‘Ironclad’ 0‑6‑0 locomotive, numbered 12042 with the cab‑side LMS livery. The model is supplied as part number 817006 and represents the era of the British ‘Big Four’ railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).

The locomotive is built to run on 2nd‑radius curves of 438 mm or larger and includes a Lancashire & Yorkshire‑style smokebox door, a single boiler handrail and Ramsbottom safety valves. Power is provided by a core‑less motor with a flywheel, and the tender houses a 21‑pin decoder socket, a large mounted speaker, MoPower stay‑alive circuitry, plunger pickups for the engine and bearing pickups for the tender. Additional details such as dynamic firebox flicker and NEM electrical pockets at the front and rear are also fitted.

The real Class 25 was introduced in 1876 after William Barton Wright became Locomotive Superintendent of the L&Y. A total of 280 examples were built between 1876 and 1887 by Kitson & Co., Sharp, Stewart & Co., Vulcan, Beyer Peacock and the L&Y’s own works at Miles Platting. Although designed for freight, the engines proved capable of mixed‑traffic work and earned the nickname ‘Ironclad’. They were re‑allocated to local goods and shunting duties in the 1880s, re‑classified 2F by the LMS, and remained in service until the last withdrawal on 31/12/1959 (locomotive No.52044, L&Y No.957). The preserved No.957, known as ‘Green Dragon’, appears in several television and film productions.

The Rapido model is available in a range of liveries, including versions that reflect the locomotive’s appearance during different periods of its preservation history. It is intended for use on 2nd‑radius model railway layouts and complies with standard OO‑scale specifications.
