Rapido Class 25 ‘Ironclad’ 0‑6‑0 No.964 Lancashire & Yorkshire Lined Black (post‑1890) – OO gauge steam locomotive fitted with DCC Sound (manufacturer part number 817502). The model represents the pre‑grouping period of the original railway.

The locomotive is designed to negotiate 2nd‑radius curves of 438 mm or more and features L&Y‑style smokebox door, a single boiler handrail, Ramsbottom safety valves and a core‑less motor with flywheel. It includes a 21‑pin decoder socket in the tender, a large tender‑mounted speaker, MoPower stay‑alive circuitry, plunger pickups on both loco and tender wheels, dynamic firebox flicker and NEM pocket sockets at both front and rear.

The real Class 25 ‘Ironclad’ 0‑6‑0 was introduced by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway after William Barton Wright became Locomotive Superintendent in 1875. An initial order of 22 engines was placed with Kitson & Co. between summer 1876 and early 1878, followed by further batches from Sharp, Stewart & Co., Vulcan, Beyer Peacock and in‑house construction at Miles Platting. In total 280 locomotives were built between 1876 and 1887. Although intended for freight, they proved adept at mixed‑traffic duties and earned the nickname “Ironclad”. They remained in service with the LMS as power class 2F until the last example was withdrawn in 1959, one survivor (L&Y No.957) later being preserved at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

Rapido Trains UK offers the Class 25 in several liveries, including two that reflect different stages of its preservation history, allowing modelers to represent the locomotive as it appeared in both its original L&Y black livery and later heritage colour schemes.
