Rapido Trains UK OO gauge model of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Class 25 “Ironclad” 0‑6‑0, locomotive No 12036 (cab‑side number) in LMS livery, supplied with integrated DCC sound. The model carries the manufacturer part number 817507 and represents the locomotive as it appeared during the era of the Big Four railway companies.

The locomotive is fitted with a core‑less motor and flywheel, a 21‑pin decoder socket in the tender, and a large tender‑mounted speaker. Sound is generated by DCC and includes dynamic firebox flicker, plunger pickups on both engine and tender wheels, and NEM sound pockets on the front and rear. It is suitable for operation on second‑radius curves of 438 mm or greater and includes features such as an LMS‑style smokebox door, three‑piece boiler handrail, Ramsbottom safety valves, a MoPower stay‑alive unit and a stay‑alive fitted.

The prototype Class 25 locomotives were introduced from 1876, with 280 examples built by Kitson, Sharp, Stewart & Co., Vulcan and Beyer Peacock, and at the L&Y’s Miles Platting works. Designed for freight but used on mixed traffic, they earned the nickname “Ironclad”. Withdrawals began in 1930 and the last member of the class left service in 1959. One survivor, L&Y No 957 – later known as “Green Dragon” – was preserved on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and featured in several television and film productions.

Rapido Trains UK offers the Class 25 model in a range of liveries, including versions that reflect different periods of the locomotive’s preservation history.
