Manufacturer description

The British Railways Standard Mark 1 coach was introduced in 1951 and, over a period of about ten years, the new fleet of coaches replaced pre-war designed rolling stock on most principal routes in the United Kingdom.

The design was used for passenger hauled stock, multiple unit carriages and non-passenger carrying stock; passenger stock construction taking place between 1951 and 1963, while multiple units and non-passenger carrying stock continued to be built until 1974.

The final withdrawal of Mark 1 stock from daily mainline use came in 2005. However, the type continue in mainline charter service, as well as on many heritage railways.

The model is painted in BR green livery, measures 265 mm in length and carries the running number S84289. It is supplied with NEM / tension‑lock couplings and a minimum curve radius of 2.

The coach type is a British Railways Mark 1, designed by BREL and built by BR Workshops, Cravens and the Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Company between 1951 and 1963. The manufacturer part number is R4982 and the wheel arrangement uses standard BR bogies (BR1, BR2, Commonwealth or B4 types).

The real Mark 1 coaches were introduced in 1951 and gradually replaced pre‑war rolling stock on most principal routes in the United Kingdom over a ten‑year period. Passenger‑carriage production continued until 1963, while multiple‑unit and non‑passenger variants were built until 1974. The last regular mainline use of Mark 1 stock ended in 2005, although many examples remain in charter service and on heritage railways.
