Rapido Trains UK produce a 1:76 scale (OO gauge) model of the LNER C12 4‑4‑2 tank locomotive No.1517N. The model is supplied with DCC sound capability and carries the manufacturer part number 989504. It represents the era of the “Big Four” railway companies – LNER, LMS, GWR and SR.

The locomotive is finished in LNER plain black with a short chimney, dome and as‑built safety valves. Details include round tank edges, tapered buffers, destination‑plate hangers on the smokebox door, brass destination plates for condensing variants, and a museum‑quality paint finish. The model is suitable for operation on second‑radius curves of 438 mm or greater, features sprung buffers, NEM 363 coupler pockets at the front and NEM 362 at the rear, and a die‑cast running board.

Electronic features comprise a factory‑fitted speaker, an ESU E24 DCC decoder socket and MoPower stay‑alive capacitors. The locomotive offers dynamic firebox flicker with a fire‑draw effect and a smooth, powerful running mechanism.

The real locomotive began life as the GNR C2 class, introduced in 1898 and built in batches until 1907. After the 1923 Grouping it was re‑classified as the LNER C12 and served across the former GNR network and later on lines in Hull, Manchester, the former Great Eastern Railway and the Midland and Great Northern Railway. Withdrawals started in 1937‑1938 and the final member, No.67397, was retired at the end of 1958; none were preserved. The Rapido model reproduces this class in a range of pre‑grouping, grouping and nationalisation liveries, with numerous detail variations such as chimneys, domes, safety‑valve styles, tank shapes, condensing pipes and coal‑rail designs.
