Rapido LNER C12 Tank No.67356 is a 1:76 (OO gauge) British Railways black steam locomotive model, supplied under part number 989009. The model represents the early crest period of British Railways and is designed for operation on second‑radius curves of 438 mm or greater.
The prototype C12, originally classed as GNR C2, was introduced in 1898 as a 4‑4‑2 Atlantic tank engine for local passenger services in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Between 1898 and 1907 a total of 60 locomotives were built, the final fifty with condensing apparatus for use on the Metropolitan Widened Lines. Following the 1923 LNER re‑classification the class served across the former GNR, GC, GER and MGN networks until the last example was withdrawn in 1958; none were preserved.
The Rapido model incorporates a tall chimney, dome, Ross Pop safety valves, square tank edges, parallel buffers and a number plate on the smokebox door. Detail variations across the range include different chimney styles, dome designs, safety‑valve types, bunker shapes, tank corner profiles, condensing pipes and coal‑rail arrangements. Brass destination plates are supplied for the condensing‑apparatus variants.
Technical features comprise an ESU E24 DCC decoder socket, MoPower stay‑alive capacitors, factory‑fitted speakers, dynamic fire‑box flicker with a fire‑draw effect, die‑cast running board and NEM coupler pockets (363 at the front, 362 at the rear). The locomotive is finished in a museum‑quality paint scheme and offers a smooth, powerful running mechanism.
The model is available in a selection of pre‑grouping, grouping and nationalisation liveries covering the wider Eastern Region network, with each unit receiving a unique combination of the aforementioned detail parts.
