Manufacturer description

BR’s standard 25kV AC electric locomotive of the late-1960s, developed using experience gained with the earlier ‘AL1’ to ‘AL5’ classes. A handful of ‘86s’ remain in use today both in the UK and overseas. This latest variant features a number of improvements over our previous Class 86s, including separately switchable tail lights in DCC mode. It focuses on the previously overlooked mixed traffic ‘86/4’ and freight-only ‘86/6’ sub-classes modified from the mid-1980s onwards.

Models are supplied with either a Faiveley (*) or Brecknell Willis high-speed (+) pantograph.

The Heljan Class 86 BR Rail Blue 86011 model is a highly detailed and accurate representation of the classic British Rail electric locomotive. This model is designed to replicate the as-built 'AL6' machines and Class 86/0s of the 1965-80 period, featuring a number of improvements over Heljan's previous Class 86 models.

The model is finished in a pristine BR Blue FYE livery, with a 21-pin DCC interface allowing for easy connection to a digital command control system. The locomotive features working lights, NEM couplings, and sprung buffers for a more realistic operating experience.

The Class 86 was a standard 25kV AC electric locomotive developed by British Rail in the 1960s and 1980s, used for a variety of duties including express passenger trains, fast freight, and parcels and mail traffic. Many '86s remain in use today, both in the UK and overseas.
