Era 7 (1972 to 1982) British Rail Blue (TOPS)
BR's standard 25kV AC electric locomotive of the 1960s to 1980s was developed using experience gained with the earlier 'AL1' to 'AL5' classes.
Deployed on many duties from 100mph express passenger trains to fast freight, parcels and mail traffic, many '86s' remain in use today both in the UK and overseas.
Heljan's new model looks back at the as-built 'AL6' machines and Class 86/0s of the 1965-80 period and features a number of improvements over Heljan's previous Class 86s.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Heljan has released a new model of the British Rail Class 86/0 'AL6' Bo-Bo electric locomotive in OO gauge. This model represents the locomotive as it was built in the 1960s, with a weathered finish in BR blue livery with a double arrow logo and full yellow ends.
The model features a 21-pin DCC interface, allowing for easy digital control. It also includes working lights, NEM couplings, and sprung buffers. The locomotive is built in the correct proportions and features a length of 235mm.
The Class 86 was a standard 25kV AC electric locomotive developed by British Rail in the 1960s, used for a variety of duties including express passenger trains, freight, parcels, and mail traffic. The class was built at BR's Doncaster Works and the Vulcan Foundry, with a total of 100 locomotives produced between 1965 and 1980.
The model is designed to represent the locomotives as they appeared in the 1965-80 period, with features such as a weathered finish and accurate detailing. It is a DCC-ready model, requiring a 21-pin socket, and is suitable for use on 2nd radius curves or greater.
