Manufacturer description

BR's standard 25kV AC electric locomotive of the 1960s to 1980s was developed using experience gained with the earlier 'AL1' to 'AL5' classes.

Deployed on many duties from 100mph express passenger trains to fast freight, parcels and mail traffic, many '86s' remain in use today both in the UK and overseas.

Heljan's new model looks back at the as-built 'AL6' machines and Class 86/0s of the 1965-80 period and features a number of improvements over Heljan's previous Class 86s.

The Heljan Class 86/0 'AL6' Bo-Bo Electric Locomotive in BR Blue livery is a model of a British Rail Class 86 locomotive. This model is based on the locomotives built between 1965-1966 by BR Doncaster Works and Vulcan Foundry, with a total of 100 produced. The model features a BR blue livery with small yellow warning panels and blue bufferbeams, and is designed for OO gauge model railways.

The model is DCC ready with a 21-pin socket, allowing for easy digital control. It has working lights and features NEM couplings and sprung buffers for a smooth and realistic running experience. The locomotive is powered by electric motive power and has all-wheel power pickup.

The Class 86 locomotive was a standard 25kV AC electric locomotive developed by British Rail in the 1960s, used for mixed traffic duties including express passenger trains and fast freight. Many of these locomotives remain in use today in the UK and overseas. Heljan's model is an improvement over their previous Class 86 models, featuring a number of new details and features.

Key specifications of the model include a length of 235mm, a minimum radius curve of 2nd radius (438mm), and a wheel arrangement of Bo-Bo. The model is built to represent the locomotives of the 1965-80 period, a time of great change for British Railways.
