Manufacturer description

BR’s standard 25kV AC electric locomotive of the late-1960s, developed using experience gained with the earlier ‘AL1’ to ‘AL5’ classes. A handful of ‘86s’ remain in use today both in the UK and overseas. This latest variant features a number of improvements over our previous Class 86s, including separately switchable tail lights in DCC mode. It focuses on the previously overlooked mixed traffic ‘86/4’ and freight-only ‘86/6’ sub-classes modified from the mid-1980s onwards.

Models are supplied with either a Faiveley (*) or Brecknell Willis high-speed (+) pantograph.

The Heljan Class 86/2 model is a representation of the British Rail Class 86 electric locomotive, specifically the 86 238 'European Community' variant. This model features the Intercity Swallow livery and is DCC Ready with a 21 pin socket.

The locomotive was built between 1965 and 1966 at the Doncaster Works, with English Electric at Vulcan Foundry being responsible for the electrical equipment. The Class 86 was a standard 25kV AC electric locomotive developed from the earlier AL1 to AL5 classes.

This particular model focuses on the modified '86/4' and '86/6' sub-classes introduced from the mid-1980s. The model comes with either a Faiveley or Brecknell Willis high-speed pantograph.

Key features of the model include finely applied livery details, a smooth running motor and flywheel, NEM couplings, working lights, and sprung buffers. The model is also sound ready, allowing for the addition of an electric sound decoder.

Specifications for the model include a minimum radius curve of 2 and the ability to pick up power from all wheels.
