Manufacturer description

BR's standard 25kV AC electric locomotive of the 1960s to 1980s was developed using experience gained with the earlier 'AL1' to 'AL5' classes.

Deployed on many duties from 100mph express passenger trains to fast freight, parcels and mail traffic, many '86s' remain in use today both in the UK and overseas.

Heljan's new model looks back at the as-built 'AL6' machines and Class 86/0s of the 1965-80 period and features a number of improvements over Heljan's previous Class 86s.

The Heljan Class 86/0 'AL6' Bo-Bo Electric Locomotive in BR Blue livery is a model of a classic British Rail locomotive. Built by BR Doncaster Works and Vulcan Foundry between 1965 and 1966, 100 of these locomotives were produced for use on mixed traffic duties.

The model features a number of improvements over Heljan's previous Class 86 releases, including a 21-pin DCC interface, working lights, NEM couplings, and sprung buffers. The locomotive is designed to operate on a minimum radius curve of 2nd Radius (438mm) and has all-wheel power pickup.

The model is available in the distinctive BR Blue livery with full yellow ends, white cab roof, and red bufferbeams, and features a running number of E3178. It is a DCC Ready model, with a 21-pin socket for easy fitting of a digital command control system.

The Class 86 locomotive was a standard 25kV AC electric locomotive developed by British Rail in the 1960s and 1980s, and was used for a variety of duties including express passenger trains, fast freight, parcels, and mail traffic. Many of these locomotives remain in use today, both in the UK and overseas.

The model represents the 'AL6' machines and Class 86/0s of the 1965-80 period, and is a great addition to any model railway layout depicting the British Rail era.
