Heljan’s OO‑scale model of the British Rail Class 86 404 InterCity Executive electric locomotive replicates the original locomotive built between 1965 and 1966 by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry and British Rail’s Doncaster Works. The model is finished in a pristine Intercity livery, carries the running number 86404 and represents the West Coast Main Line sector during the British Rail sectorisation era. It measures 235 mm in length, has a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement with all wheels powered, a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd radius) and uses NEM couplings.
The locomotive is DCC ready, featuring a 21‑pin socket, LED directional lighting and is both DCC and sound ready. It includes authentic MW and TDM cable options, a finely detailed underframe and wire handrails. The model is supplied with a manufacturer part number of 8640 and will be offered in a range of liveries reflecting mixed‑traffic and freight variants seen from the mid‑1980s onwards.
