Manufacturer description

Freightliner inherited a large fleet of thirty Class 86/6 freight-dedicated locomotives, most of which had previously been operated by Railfreight Distribution, but some came from Rail Express Systems. The fleet consisted of locomotives in many different obsolete liveries so, from 1995, Freightliner started to apply its newly introduced livery. This was based on the previous Trainload two-tone grey, with the addition of Freightliner's red triangle logo.

In 1998, following the introduction of the rebuilt Class 57 diesel locomotives, Freightliner introduced a new livery of racing green with yellow cabsides. The first Class 86 to appear in this livery was no. 86631, which was hurriedly repainted for display at an open day at Toton. The majority of the fleet have slowly been treated over the years, such that by the end of 2004, only a handful remained in the original two-tone grey livery. Two locomotives (nos. 86622/637) were subsequently repainted in Freightliner Powerhaul Livery.

These are to be replaced in the by Class 90s, sent off lease by Greater Anglia, making it the end of regular use for the class after 55 years of service.

Gaugemaster Class 86 637 Freightliner Powerhaul is a model locomotive presented in the Freightliner Powerhaul livery, carrying the running number 86 637. It is built to a 1:20 scale with a length of 234 mm and is supplied as a pristine, pre‑finished item. The model includes NEM couplings and a 21‑pin DCC socket, making it DCC ready. Its manufacturer part number is GM4240301.

The original Class 86/6 locomotives were inherited by Freightliner in the mid‑1990s from Railfreight Distribution and Rail Express Systems. From 1995 the company began applying a new livery based on the earlier two‑tone grey with Freightliner’s red triangle logo, and in 1998 introduced a racing‑green livery with yellow cab sides. By the end of December 2004 most units had been repainted, but two – numbers 86622 and 86637 – were later finished in the Freightliner Powerhaul livery. These locomotives are due to be superseded by Class 90s, marking the end of regular service for the class after 55 years.

Technical details: the model represents a Co‑Co wheel arrangement and features cast profiled wheels with appropriate colouring. It is equipped with sprung buffers and includes exterior and interior detail. The body is painted in a high‑quality finish.
