Prototype Era
Era 9 (1995 to 2004) Initial Privatisation
BR’s standard 25kV AC electric locomotive of the late-1960s, developed using experience gained with the earlier ‘AL1’ to ‘AL5’ classes. A handful of ‘86s’ remain in use today both in the UK and overseas. This latest variant features a number of improvements over our previous Class 86s, including separately switchable tail lights in DCC mode. It focuses on the previously overlooked mixed traffic ‘86/4’ and freight-only ‘86/6’ sub-classes modified from the mid-1980s onwards.
Models are supplied with either a Faiveley (*) or Brecknell Willis high-speed (+) pantograph.
FEATURES
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

The Heljan Class 86/2 86259 'Les Ross' is a model of a British Rail Class 86 electric locomotive. Built between 1965 and 1966, this model represents the standard 25kV AC electric locomotive used by BR in the late 1960s.
The model is a representation of the '86/2' variant, which was a modified version of the Class 86 locomotive. This variant was used for mixed traffic and freight-only services from the mid-1980s onwards.
Key features of the model include finely applied livery details, a smooth running motor and flywheel, and a 21-pin DCC socket. The model also features working lights, sprung buffers, and is sound ready. It comes with either a Faiveley or Brecknell Willis high-speed pantograph.
The model is designed to run on a minimum radius curve of 2 and has all-wheel power pickup. It is equipped with NEM couplings and a tension lock. The model is a representation of locomotive number 86 259 'Les Ross' in Electric Blue livery, and is part of the BR fleet.
Other Class 86 locomotives in different liveries are available from the manufacturer.
