Manufacturer description

A small class of diesel-electric shunters built by Ruston & Hornsby to work in and around Southampton Docks, replacing the famous 'USA' 0-6-0T steam locomotives. After withdrawal in the late-1970s, several were sold for industrial use around the UK.

Heljan Class 07 – D2998 is a 0‑6‑0 diesel‑electric shunter in British Rail blue livery, modelled in OO gauge. The model measures 105 mm in length, has a pristine finish and features all‑wheel power pickup, directional lighting and working cab lights. It is supplied DCC‑ready with a 6‑pin socket and is fitted with NEM couplings and sprung buffers.

The prototype was built by Ruston & Hornsby in Lincoln in 1962, with a total production of 14 units. It served the Southern/Industrial region, primarily for dock shunting at Southampton Docks, and was withdrawn in May 1973 after ten years in service. The model represents the pre‑TOPS British Rail blue period.

Key specifications include a minimum radius curve of 371 mm (1st radius), a maximum speed of 20 mph and a diesel motive power. The manufacturer part number is 2907. For DCC fitting, Heljan recommends the RoS‑6D decoder. Sound is not included due to space limitations.
