Manufacturer description

One of the most successful and long-lived BR 'Pilot Scheme' designs; the initial 20 locomotives were followed by 26 more (Class 26/1) and all were concen trated on the Scottish Region from the 1960s. Used on everything from heavy sleeping car trains to local goods trips, the '26s' proved to be reliable, robust and versatile.

The Heljan Class 26 011 Civil Engineers locomotive is a OO gauge model of the British Rail Class 26 diesel locomotive. It is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket, features working directional lighting, NEM couplings and sprung buffers, and is finished in a pristine departmental grey livery. The model measures 200 mm in length, has a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement, and picks up power from all wheels.

The prototype was built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. in Smethwick between 1958 and 1959, with a total production run of 47 units. The locomotives operated on the Eastern and Scottish Regions of British Rail, handling both freight and passenger traffic, and were capable of a maximum speed of 75 mph. They remained in service until 1993.

This replica represents the British Rail Blue (TOPS) period and is supplied with the manufacturer part number 2657. It is suitable for use on 2nd radius curves (minimum 438 mm) and carries the running number 26011.
