Class 26 025 Railfreight Red Stripe with ED Westie Logo
The Heljan company has announced the introduction of a new OO gauge model of the Class 26 diesel locomotive in BR Blue livery with a tablet catcher recess. This model features a 21-pin DCC interface, allowing for easy conversion to digital control, and comes with separately switchable headlights, marker and tail lights, and cab and engine room interior lighting.
The new model is part of a comprehensive overhaul of Heljan's OO gauge Class 26 range, which will include mechanical, detail, and electronics upgrades. The initial release will feature two models depicting locomotives in typical 1970s condition and a mid-1980s machine with Inverness depot's 'Highland Rail' emblem. The models will also feature early style circular radio pods and a range of other features, including a refined body shape, improved bogie detail, and a redesigned chassis.
The new models are designed to meet the expectations of modern modellers and will be followed by a range of upgraded Class 26/1s covering the entire BR career of the BRCW Type 2s from the late-1950s to withdrawal in 1993. An upgraded Class 26/0 variant is also planned, with further details to be confirmed later this year.
