Manufacturer description

An all-new version of our ever-popular BRCW Class 26, featuring a comprehensively upgraded specification, finer detail and twin factory-fitted speakers, plus a new variant with Far North Line twin headlights.

The Class 26s were one of the most successful and longlived BR ‘Pilot Scheme’ designs; the initial 20 locomotives were followed by 26 more (Class 26/1) and all were concentrated on the Scottish Region from the 1960s. Used on everything from heavy sleeping car trains to local goods trips, the ‘26s’ proved to be reliable, robust and versatile.

Heljan's OO gauge Class 26 diesel locomotive is a new model that has been introduced to fill a gap in the market. This locomotive features a Dutch Engineers Grey/Yellow livery and is designed to represent a British Rail Blue TOPS era machine. The model is DCC ready, with a 21-pin socket and all-wheel power pickup.

The locomotive has a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement and features separately switchable headlights, marker/tail lights, and interior lighting. The model is built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company and is based on the real-life locomotives built between 1958 and 1959.

One of the key features of this model is its upgrade in detail and electronics, including a redesigned chassis and improved bogie detail. The model also includes a detachable access panel in the roof and enhanced lighting features. It is designed to be compatible with DCC sound systems, with a plug-and-play capability.

The initial release of the model includes two variants, representing locomotives in the 1970s and mid-1980s, both featuring the early style circular radio pods. Further variants are planned, including an upgraded Class 26/0 model.

The model features a range of details, including finer body detail, very fine etched radiator grilles, and a powerful, smooth-running 5-pole motor with flywheel. The model also has sprung oleo buffers and optional tablet catcher arm and three-piece miniature snowploughs.
