Manufacturer description

An all-new version of our ever-popular BRCW Class 26, featuring a comprehensively upgraded specification, finer detail and twin factory-fitted speakers, plus a new variant with Far North Line twin headlights.

The Class 26s were one of the most successful and longlived BR ‘Pilot Scheme’ designs; the initial 20 locomotives were followed by 26 more (Class 26/1) and all were concentrated on the Scottish Region from the 1960s. Used on everything from heavy sleeping car trains to local goods trips, the ‘26s’ proved to be reliable, robust and versatile.

Heljan has released a new OO gauge model of the Class 26 diesel locomotive in BR Green with full yellow ends livery. This model is DCC ready with a 21-pin socket and features all-wheel power pickup. The recommended minimum radius curve for operation is 2. The locomotive has a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement and was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company in 1958-1959.

This model is part of a larger revamp of Heljan's OO gauge Class 26 range, which will also include upgraded mechanical, detail, and electronic features. The new model features separately switchable headlights, marker and tail lights, and cab and engine room interior lights. It also has a 21-pin DCC interface, plug-and-play DCC sound capability, and a wealth of new details.

The initial release includes two models, one representing a typical 1970s condition locomotive and the other a mid-1980s example with Inverness depot's 'Highland Rail' emblem. Both models feature early-style circular radio pods, which were fitted to Class 26s for improved communication on long and isolated routes.

The model is designed to represent the locomotives of the late-1950s to 1993 period, and future releases will include a range of variants covering the entire BR career of the Class 26.
