Manufacturer description

An all-new version of our ever-popular BRCW Class 26, featuring a comprehensively upgraded specification, finer detail and twin factory-fitted speakers, plus a new variant with Far North Line twin headlights.

The Class 26s were one of the most successful and longlived BR ‘Pilot Scheme’ designs; the initial 20 locomotives were followed by 26 more (Class 26/1) and all were concentrated on the Scottish Region from the 1960s. Used on everything from heavy sleeping car trains to local goods trips, the ‘26s’ proved to be reliable, robust and versatile.

Heljan is introducing a new OO gauge model of the Class 26 diesel locomotive in BR Green with small yellow panels livery. This model is the first stage in a complete revamp of the OO gauge Class 26/1.

The new model features separately switchable headlights, marker and tail lights, and interior lights for the cab and engine room. It also includes a 21-pin DCC interface with a removable hatch in the roof, and plug-and-play DCC sound capability. The model features a wealth of new details, including finer body detail and refined shape, improved bogie detail and relief, and a redesigned and upgraded chassis.

The model is designed to meet the expectations of modellers in the 2020s and is available in two variants: a 1970s version and a mid-1980s version with an Inverness depot 'Highland Rail' emblem. The model features all-wheel drive and pick-up, a powerful and smooth-running 5-pole motor with flywheel, and sprung oleo buffers.

Future releases will include a range of upgraded Class 26/1s covering the entire BR career of the BRCW Type 2s, from the late-1950s to withdrawal in 1993, as well as an upgraded Class 26/0 variant. The model is DCC ready and features a NEM/Tension lock coupling.

Key features of the model include:

* Separately switchable headlights, marker and tail lights, and interior lights
* 21-pin DCC interface with removable hatch in the roof
