Heljan has introduced a new OO gauge model of the Class 26 diesel locomotive in BR blue livery. The model is numbered 26042 and features dual braking. The locomotive is DCC ready, with a 21-pin socket on the roof, and has a minimum radius curve of 2 inches. The model has all-wheel power pickup and a NEM/Tension lock coupling.

The model features a 5-pole motor with flywheel, providing smooth running, and sprung oleo buffers. The lighting is enhanced, with independently switchable marker, tail, cab and engine room lights. The model also features a detachable access panel in the roof, allowing for easy access to the DCC interface.

The new model is part of a range of upgrades to the OO gauge Class 26/1, which includes mechanical, detail, DCC and electronics upgrades. The range will eventually cover the entire BR career of the Class 26, from the late 1950s to 1993, including an upgraded Class 26/0 variant.

The initial release will feature two models: a 1970s condition locomotive and a mid-1980s machine with an Inverness depot 'Highland Rail' emblem. The model features finer body detail, improved bogie detail and relief, and a redesigned and upgraded chassis. The model is designed for 'plug and play' conversion to DCC sound and features very fine etched radiator grilles and a new Far North Line version with twin headlights.
