Heljan's OO scale Class 26 diesel locomotive, a model of BR Blue livery locomotive 26032, has been released. This model features twin headlights, typical of those used by Inverness depot for Far North Line operation in the early 1970s.

The Class 26 locomotives, built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company between 1958 and 1959, were part of the British Rail Sectorisation period. This new model is the first stage in a comprehensive overhaul of Heljan's OO gauge Class 26 range, which will include mechanical, detail, DCC and electronics upgrades.

The model features a 21-pin DCC interface with a removable hatch in the roof, allowing for easy access. It also includes plug-and-play DCC sound capability, separately switchable headlights, marker/tail lights, cab and engine room interior lights, and a wealth of new details. Other features include a redesigned and upgraded chassis, finer body detail, refined shape, and enhanced lighting.

The initial release will include two models, one in typical 1970s condition and one in mid-1980s condition, both featuring the Inverness depot 'Highland Rail' emblem. A range of upgraded Class 26/1s covering the entire BR career of the BRCW Type 2s is planned, including a Class 26/0 variant.
