The class 121 and 122 (also known as "Bubble Cars") formed part of the first generation of British DMU's. These units were designed to run on branch lines and secondary routes and were ideal for stations that were not able to have run-round loops due to space.

The class 121 units were built in 1960 by Pressed Steel and the class 122 were built in 1958 by Gloucester RC& W. Lots of these units are still in preservation.

Dapol Class 122 975042 is an OO‑scale model of the British Rail Class 122 diesel multiple‑unit, built to represent the Network SouthEast livery of red, white and blue. The model is finished in pristine condition, fitted with DCC (digital command control), and features directional lighting and all‑wheel power pickup.

The body measures 267 mm in length, 34 mm in width and 49 mm in height, with a minimum curve radius of 2. It rides on a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement, uses NEM couplings with tension lock, and is powered by a coreless motor for smooth operation. The model includes a spares bag containing additional detailing parts.

The prototype was constructed by Gloucester RCW in 1958, with a total production run of 29 units. It operated under British Rail Network SouthEast, had a maximum speed of 70 mph and carried the running number 975042. The model is equipped with a Soundtraxx STX882106 diesel sound decoder (external speaker required).
