The class 121 and 122 (also known as "Bubble Cars") formed part of the first generation of British DMU's. These units were designed to run on branch lines and secondary routes and were ideal for stations that were not able to have run-round loops due to space.

The class 121 units were built in 1960 by Pressed Steel and the class 122 were built in 1958 by Gloucester RC& W. Lots of these units are still in preservation.

The Dapol Class 122 Bubble Car model #55012, representing a Regional Railways unit, is a scale model of a British Rail diesel multiple unit. The model has a gauge of OO and features a blue and grey livery with the correct running number of 55012. The model is DCC ready, with a 21 pin socket, and includes interior and directional lighting.

The model measures 267mm in length, 34mm in width, and 49mm in height, with a minimum recommended curve radius of 2. Power pickup is provided by all wheels, and the model features NEM/Tension lock couplings. The model is built to represent a unit from the British Rail Sectorisation period.

The Class 122 units were built by Gloucester RC&W between 1958 and 1958, with a total of 29 units produced. The real-life units were designed for branch lines and secondary routes, and were ideal for stations without run-round loops. Many of these units are still preserved today.

The model features a finely moulded body with etched grills, a cast wheel, and a tungsten chassis. It is suitable for Era 8 (1982-1994) and can be powered by 12V DC.
