Prototype Eras
Era 7 (1972 to 1982) British Rail Blue (TOPS)
Era 8 (1983 to 1994) British Rail Sectorisation
The class 121 and 122 (also known as "Bubble Cars") formed part of the first generation of British DMU's. These units were designed to run on branch lines and secondary routes and were ideal for stations that were not able to have run-round loops due to space.
The class 121 units were built in 1960 by Pressed Steel and the class 122 were built in 1958 by Gloucester RC& W. Lots of these units are still in preservation.
MODEL
These great little models feature lots of details including etched grills, directional lighting, and finely printed external logos and numbering.

Class 122 Bubble Car #55002 Blue & Grey livery
Dapol Class 122 (product number 975042) is a OO‑gauge, single‑car DMU locomotive model. It is supplied in a pristine finish with a red, white and blue Network South East livery and carries the running number 975042. The model is DCC ready with a 21‑pin socket, includes interior and directional lighting, and is equipped with NEM/tension‑lock couplings.
The chassis is made from tungsten and the wheels are cast in the appropriate colour for the livery. Power is picked up from all wheels and the model uses a coreless motor for smooth operation. The wheel arrangement is Bo‑Bo and the model includes a spare parts bag containing additional detailing components.
The prototype Class 122 was built by Gloucester RCW in 1958; only 29 units were produced and they were operated by British Rail Network SouthEast, capable of 70 mph. The model represents the British Rail Blue (TOPS) period, specifically the 1971‑1982 era. Measurements are 267 mm in length over buffers, 34 mm wide and 49 mm high, with a minimum curve radius of 2 units.
