Manufacturer description

The class 121 and 122 (also known as "Bubble Cars") formed part of the first generation of British DMU's. These units were designed to run on branch lines and secondary routes and were ideal for stations that were not able to have run-round loops due to space.

The class 121 units were built in 1960 by Pressed Steel and the class 122 were built in 1958 by Gloucester RC& W. Lots of these units are still in preservation.

MODEL
These great little models feature lots of details including etched grills, directional lighting, and finely printed external logos and numbering.

Dapol Class 122 Bubble Car (model number SC55013) is an OO‑scale replica of a British Rail Class 122 diesel multiple‑unit. The model is finished in a pristine British Rail blue livery and is fitted with Digital Command Control (DCC). It carries the operator’s running number SC55013 and represents the pre‑TOPS era of British Rail.

The model measures 267 mm in length over the buffers, 34 mm wide and 49 mm high. It has a Bo‑Bo wheel configuration with all wheels providing power pickup, and uses NEM couplings with a tension‑lock type. The chassis is made of tungsten, and the body is finely moulded with etched grills. Directional lighting and a coreless motor are included, and the sound decoder is an STX882106 Diesel Sound Decoder (speaker required). A spares bag with additional detailing parts is supplied.

Key specifications: gauge OO; DCC fitted; powered by diesel multiple‑unit traction; maximum speed 70 mph; model built by Gloucester RCW in 1958 (total production 29 units). The model represents the British Rail Blue period (1967‑1971). The track supply is 2‑rail DCC, and the finish is described as pristine.
