Cavalex Models Class 56 BR Blue No 56021 is a die‑cast diesel locomotive kit representing British Rail Blue livery from the 1977‑1988 period. The model features the distinctive Romanian outline, full buffer‑beam cowling, square mesh side grilles, cantrail grilles and roof grille, together with a rubber‑sealed cab and side windows.

The locomotive incorporates a 21‑pin DCC interface with a removable panel for easy installation of a DCC chip and dip‑switch control for DC operation, allowing full lighting control without removing the model from the track. Photo‑etched grilles are used on the body sides, roof and cantrail, and many components such as bogies and the underframe are supplied as separate fitted parts for greater detail.

Lighting is independently controllable for parked, yard, light‑engine and on‑train modes, with realistic brightness and colour. The cab interior includes a driver’s desk with individually printed dials and full‑depth detailing. Hall sensors provide automated flange squeal on sound‑fitted versions, and a power bank with floating centre axles ensures smooth running. The locomotive is driven by a 5‑pole motor with twin flywheel and low‑ratio gearbox for prototypical speeds.

Optional drop‑in wheelsets allow conversion to EM and P4 gauges. An accurately detailed underframe, etched nameplates, and locomotive‑specific details are provided across four series of builds. The model includes factory‑fitted DCC sound based on a custom ESU project, with an ESU speaker mounted in the chassis for balanced low and high frequency reproduction. Both standard and revised cantrail grill options are available.
