Cavalex Models Class 56 BR Original Railfreight Grey No 56002 is a 4 mm scale diesel locomotive representing a British Rail Class 56 in the Original Railfreight livery. The model depicts the prototype as it appeared between 1986 and 1990 and includes the distinctive Romanian‑shape body, full buffer‑beam cowling and square‑mesh side, cantrail and roof grilles. The cab and side windows are rubber sealed to match the prototype.

The locomotive is fitted with a 21‑pin DCC interface and an easily removable panel that permits installation of a DCC chip while retaining full dip‑switch control for DC users. Independent lighting is provided for parked, yard, light‑engine and on‑train modes, with realistic colour and brightness levels. Cab lighting, a driver’s desk with printed dials and a fully detailed interior are modelled to prototype standards.

Mechanical features include a 5‑pole motor with twin flywheel, a low‑ratio gearbox, floating centre axles and a power bank for smooth, uninterrupted running. Hall sensors give automated flange squeal on sound‑equipped examples, and the underframe is highly detailed with separately fitted parts. Drop‑in wheelsets can be ordered to convert the locomotive to EM or P4 gauge track.

Sound is supplied by a factory‑fitted ESU speaker and a custom‑recorded ESU project, providing balanced low and high frequencies. Photo‑etched nameplates and grille options are matched to the specific prototype, and all details have been rigorously researched to achieve a high level of accuracy.
