Manufacturer description

Land Rover Fire Engines were built on 80-inch and 88-inch chassis. These small and easily manoeuvrable fire tenders were capable of operating in restricted spaces that larger appliances could not reach. Many were sold to works fire services or small airfields when they filled the role of first-response vehciles. Although Land Rover sub-contracted the construction of later Fire Engines to specialist manufacturers through their Special Projects Department, the Series I models were actually built at the Rover Factory. The series I was ideal for use around railway stations and was a common sight in the 1950s.

Oxford Land Rover Series I 88 inch British Rail fire tender, finish listed as Pristine. Manufacturer part number is 76LAN188015 and the model represents the British Rail Blue livery associated with the TOPS system, a scheme introduced on 01/01/1973.

The vehicle is built on an 88‑inch Land Rover chassis and was designed to be small and highly manoeuvrable. Its size allowed it to operate in restricted spaces where larger fire appliances could not reach, making it suitable for first‑response duties at works fire services, small airfields and railway stations.

Series I fire engines were assembled at the Rover factory, unlike later models which were subcontracted to specialist manufacturers via Land Rover's Special Projects Department. In the 1950s the Series I was a common sight around railway stations, providing rapid initial fire fighting capability.
