Manufacturer description

The first freight wagons for the railway were open wagons. Initially, as the tractive effort of the locomotives was relatively low, these wagons were generally low sided with only one or two planks acting as sides and carrying capacity of just a couple of tons.

As the technology progressed, so did demand for rail freight and with the increased power of the steam engines came bigger wagons. The 5 plank wagon was perhaps the most common general goods wagon with tens of thousands being built by all the rail companies between 1910 and the early 1930s.

The Dapol E A Robinson 5 Plank Wagon 9ft Wheelbase is a model railway wagon designed for OO gauge layouts. This weathered model is available in two designs, both of which are highly detailed and feature profiled wheels, accurately applied livery and highly detailed body moulding.

The model represents a 5 plank wagon, a common type of general goods wagon that was built in large numbers by the Big Four railway companies between 1910 and the early 1930s. The wagons were used for carrying a variety of goods and were an essential part of the rail freight network.

The model measures 73mm in length, 33mm in width and 33mm in height. It features NEM pockets with self-centring couplings, allowing for easy connection to other model railway wagons. The model is an accurate representation of a 5 plank wagon from the Big Four era, making it a great addition to any rolling stock collection.

The model is suitable for use on OO gauge model railway layouts, and its weathered finish adds a realistic touch to the model.
