Manufacturer description

The first freight wagons for the railway were open wagons. Initially, as the tractive effort of the locomotives was relatively low, these wagons were generally low sided with only one or two planks acting as sides and carrying capacity of just a couple of tons.

As the technology progressed, so did demand for rail freight and with the increased power of the steam engines came bigger wagons. The 5 plank wagon was perhaps the most common general goods wagon with tens of thousands being built by all the rail companies between 1910 and the early 1930s.

Here is a short summary of the Dapol 5 Plank Wagon Constable Hart:

The Dapol 5 Plank Wagon Constable Hart is a model of a standard British railway wagon from the Big Four era. The model is available in OO gauge and features a realistic load, allowing it to be used with other rolling stock to recreate a variety of scenarios.

The model is based on a 5 plank wagon which was a common type of goods wagon used by British railways between 1910 and the early 1930s. Dapol have produced two versions of the model, with different wheelbases and capacities of 10 and 12 tons.

The model features highly detailed body moulding, accurately applied livery and profiled wheels. It also has NEM pockets with self-centring couplings to allow easy connection to other wagons. The measurements for the model are 82mm in length, 33mm in width and 33mm in height.
