Accurascale has announced the OO gauge Class 50 diesel locomotive, the third model in their English Electric series. The locomotive is modelled on Class 50017 'Royal Oak', a Network SouthEast liveried Class 50. The model features a highly detailed die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile wheels, and separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. It is DCC ready with a high-performance five-pole motor and metal helical gearbox, and can reach a minimum scale speed of 125mph.

The model is based on a 3D laser scan of the actual locomotive and features a range of details, including a working radiator fan with different speed settings, fully sprung buffers, and a full underframe tank with extensive pipework and separate parts. It also includes a lighting pack with directional lighting, DC and DCC, and switchable red and white marker lights.

The model is available in DCC ready or factory-fitted DCC sound versions, with the sound version featuring a customised dual-speaker technology and a hall sensor for a flange squeal effect. The model requires a minimum radius curve of 2nd radius set-track and has a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile wheels, and separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts.

The Class 50 was a class of diesel-electric locomotives built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry between 1967 and 1968. The class was initially used on passenger and parcels services between Crewe and Glasgow, and later on freight services. The locomotives were known for their reliability issues and were eventually refurbished in the late 1970s. The class was gradually replaced by more modern locomotives in the 1980s and 1990s, but a few examples have been preserved and are still in operation today.

Accurascale's Class 50 model is a highly detailed and accurate representation of the locomotive, and is the culmination of over three years of development. The model features a range of details and options, including multiple working equipment, missing handrails, and different headcode options. It is suitable for use on OO gauge track and is a must-have for any model railway enthusiast interested in British Rail locomotives.
