Accurascale has announced the OO gauge Class 50, the third and final member of their English Electric six-axle trio. The model is a highly detailed representation of the iconic locomotive, featuring a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile wheels, and separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts.

The Class 50 was a 100mph diesel-electric locomotive built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry between 1967 and 1968. The class developed a huge following in the late 1980s as older locomotives fell by the wayside, and many enthusiasts formed intense bonds with individual Class 50s. Although the final withdrawals came in 1994, 18 examples are still extant, with five currently main line registered.

The Accurascale model features a range of details, including interchangeable printed headcodes, scale-sized and mounted snowploughs, and a fully sprung buffer. The model is DCC ready and can be fitted with Accurascale's high-performance traction system, featuring a five-pole motor, metal helical gearbox, and all-wheel drive.

The Class 50 was known for its distinctive 'Hoover' nickname, due to the intense sucking sound created by the twin inertial filters at the No. 2 end. The fleet was initially deployed on passenger and parcels services between Crewe and Glasgow, before being fitted with rheostatic braking and used on freight services.

The Accurascale model is the culmination of over three years of development, with extensive research and testing carried out to ensure accuracy and authenticity. The model features a range of options, including multiple working equipment, different bogie styles, and radio equipment fittings.

The Accurascale Class 50 is available for pre-order, with delivery expected in the near future.
